SINGAPORE is set to begin its General Election 2025 (GE2025) on Wednesday, with nomination centres across the country opening to receive candidate submissions.
The process will begin at 10am, with nominations scheduled to begin at 11am. The final list of eligible candidates is expected to be confirmed by midday, following the conclusion of proceedings.
Jurong-Pioneer Junior College will be among the main nomination centres, covering Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC, Chua Chu Kang GRC, and Bukit Gombak SMC. Both Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong are expected to submit their nomination papers at this location for their respective constituencies.
Wong, who is the secretary-general of the ruling People’s Action Party (PAP), will lead his team in defending Marsiling–Yew Tee GRC, while Gan and his team are set to contest Chua Chu Kang GRC. Each of these Group Representation Constituencies (GRCs) has four parliamentary seats, all currently held by the PAP.

Police have advised candidates to arrive early in order to facilitate a smooth nomination process.
Another closely watched contest is the five-member East Coast GRC, where uncertainty remains over whether Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat will stand for re-election. Two incumbent MPs in the constituency, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman and Cheryl Chan, have already announced their retirement from politics.
Observers expect some surprises on nomination day, with several political parties keeping their candidate lists under wraps until the last possible moment.
The Workers’ Party (WP), the main opposition force, has not confirmed whether its secretary-general Pritam Singh and the incumbent team will remain in Aljunied GRC, a long-standing stronghold for the party, or be fielded elsewhere.
Campaigning will commence once nominations conclude, running for nine days before a cooling-off day on 2 May. Polling will take place on 3 May.
Candidates intending to hold election meetings or rallies must obtain a police permit. Such events may begin from the day following nomination day.
In the 2020 general election, 11 political parties and one independent candidate contested, with the PAP winning 83 seats and the WP securing 10.
GE2025, the first general election for Wong as both prime minister and PAP leader, is expected to see contests across all 97 seats in 33 constituencies—comprising 18 GRCs and 15 SMCs. - April 23, 2025
