CHINA has warned that it will take resolute countermeasures against any country that enters into trade agreements with the United States at the expense of Chinese interests, the Ministry of Commerce said on Saturday, according to state media outlet Xinhua.
“If such a situation occurs, China will not accept it and will take firm countermeasures to defend its legitimate rights and interests,” said a spokesperson for the ministry, responding to questions on recent US trade negotiations with other economies.
The spokesperson criticised Washington’s recent imposition of what it termed “reciprocal tariffs” since April, describing the measures as a form of “typical unilateral bullying” that undermines the multilateral trading system and disrupts international trade order.
“China has always consistently opposed such practices,” the spokesperson said.
Beijing said it welcomed countries seeking to resolve trade disputes with the US through negotiations based on equality, but urged all parties to uphold fairness, respect historical context, and defend international trade rules and the multilateral system.
“It has been proven that only by resolutely upholding principles and positions can a country truly safeguard its legitimate rights,” the spokesperson added. - June 29, 2025
