US PRESIDENT Donald Trump has publicly called for Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell to “resign immediately,” citing allegations of political bias and dishonesty towards the Senate.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump shared an article referencing a call by Federal Housing Finance Agency figure Bill Pulte for Congress to investigate Powell for “political bias” and allegedly misleading the US Senate.
“Jerome Powell should resign immediately,” Bernama-Xinhua cited Trump writing, echoing past criticism he has levelled at the Fed Chair for refusing to lower interest rates during his presidency.
Trump has repeatedly clashed with Powell over monetary policy and even threatened to dismiss him before the end of his term. Powell’s current term as Chair of the Federal Reserve is set to end next year. - July 3, 2025
