IRANIAN President Masoud Pezeshkian has challenged US President Donald Trump’s position on Iran’s nuclear programme, questioning Washington’s authority to restrict Tehran’s nuclear rights amid continuing tensions between the two countries.
According to the Iranian Student News Agency, Pezeshkian made the remarks on Sunday as diplomatic disagreements over Iran’s nuclear activities remain unresolved.
“Trump says Iran cannot make use of its nuclear rights but doesn’t say for what crime. Who is he to deprive a nation of its rights?” Pezeshkian was quoted as saying.
The comments come against the backdrop of sustained US efforts to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, which Washington has identified as a central security objective.
Iran, meanwhile, has consistently denied seeking to develop nuclear weapons, while maintaining its position that it should not be subjected to restrictions on its nuclear programme. - April 19, 2026
