THE Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has characterised the persistent warnings regarding the nation’s nuclear capabilities as a psychological operation designed to intimidate the global community.

Speaking in a recently broadcast interview, spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei asserted that the narrative of an Iranian nuclear bomb has been utilised for over two decades as a political invention intended to exert pressure rather than reflecting any tangible reality.

Bernama-MEHR reported on Friday that for more than two decades, the world has been intimidated by the narrative of an Iranian nuclear bomb, whereas this issue is more of a political fabrication to apply pressure rather than a reality, Baghaei stated.

He further noted that despite these claims, Iran had previously engaged in negotiations and reached specific agreements to address the allegations directly.

The spokesperson revealed that diplomatic efforts continued even following significant hostilities involving the United States and Israel last June.

Baghaei emphasised that despite the events of June, when the United States and Israel launched an unprovoked war against Iran, a decision was made to enter the negotiation process.

He noted that during the final round of talks, an agreement was reached on several key parameters for an initial understanding.

According to the ministry, these parameters were designed to address the concerns of opposing parties while simultaneously guaranteeing the nuclear rights of Iran.

Based on those developments, and following a proposal from the other side, it was agreed that a meeting would be convened in Vienna with the presence of the International Atomic Energy Agency to discuss the technical dimensions of the issue.

Baghaei identified this as the final mutual agreement established between the involved parties.

The diplomatic context remains fraught following the onset of large scale military actions by the United States and Israel starting on 28 February.

These attacks resulted in the death of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei, alongside senior officials and numerous civilians.

In response to these incursions, Iranian armed forces-initiated missile and drone operations targeting locations within Israeli occupied territories as well as United States military bases and assets throughout the region.

Despite the intensity of the conflict, Tehran maintains that its nuclear programme remains a subject for technical resolution rather than military alarmism. - April 24, 2026
