Authorities report no tsunami threat to Malaysia - August 16, 2026

A MODERATE magnitude 5.6 earthquake struck the Flores region in Indonesia at 2.51pm today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

MetMalaysia said the earthquake was centred at 8.0 degrees south and 120.6 degrees east, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The epicentre was located 213 kilometres east of Bima, Indonesia.

MetMalaysia said there was no tsunami threat to Malaysia following the earthquake. - August 16, 2026
