JAKARTA – A suspected terrorist has been shot dead after allegedly attempting to attack Indonesia’s national police headquarters in south Jakarta this afternoon.
A video recording received by CNNIndonesia.com shows the suspect lying in the front yard of the Rupatama entrance of the building.
Access to the area has been blocked.
It was reported that residents and journalists nearby said they heard gunshots.
Media personnel are not allowed to enter the area, while a number of officers are guarding the entrance to the police headquarters.
Meanwhile, IDN Times reported that Gegana, Indonesian police’s special response unit, secured a bag carried by the suspect.
Several news outlets reported that the suspect is a woman, said to have worn a blue headscarf.
Police did not respond to calls for comment to verify the reports, said AFP.

Images from MetroTV and other major broadcasters showed what appeared to be a lone figure being shot at before falling to the ground and lying motionless.
An anti-bomb squad member approached the suspect’s body, which was lying on the ground with the gun nearby, and found no dangerous materials in the area before the body was removed.
Local news outlets called the incident an “alleged terror attack”.
It comes days after two suicide bombers attacked a cathedral in Makssar city on Sulawesi Island, injuring 20 people.
The newlywed couple who attacked the church belonged to Jamaah Ansharut Daulah, a pro-Islamic State extremist group, police said, warning of more possible attacks. – The Vibes, March 31, 2021
