THE HAGUE – The European Medicines Agency (EMA) today said it is probing into possible links between the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine and cases of a rare blood vessel disorder.
EMA said it is reviewing five cases of capillary leak syndrome, which is “characterised by the leakage of fluid from blood vessels, causing tissue swelling and a drop in blood pressure”.
This comes after the watchdog said it is listing blood clots as a very rare side effect of the shot.
“It is not yet clear whether there is a causal association” between the vaccine and the cases, said EMA in a statement.
It is also reviewing links between the Johnson & Johnson jab and blood clots after reports of four cases, one of them fatal.
Both the J&J and AstraZeneca shots use similar adenovirus vector technology. – AFP, April 9, 2021
