PRESIDENT Donald Trump said Friday that the United States is engaged in talks with Iran and making progress.
"The Strait of Hormuz is now open, with a higher volume of oil transactions than before ... and we are in negotiations with Iran.
"We are doing very well with Iran. We're talking to Iran," Trump told reporters on Friday.
"We haven't lost a soldier in seven months or six months. We have the Hormuz Strait open, doing more business than they've ever done with oil. And we're doing very well. And we are talking to them," he added.
Tehran has also signalled that it could offer concessions that had previously been "off the table," reports said, although the precise nature of those concessions was not disclosed.
The diplomatic developments come just days after Democrats captured both chambers of Congress in Tuesday's midterm elections, amid voter concerns over the Iran war and rising energy prices.
Trump has maintained that preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons remains a central objective of the U.S. military campaign. – November 7, 2026
