WASHINGTON – United States pharmaceutical company Pfizer yesterday said a third dose of its Covid-19 vaccine can “strongly” boost protection against the Delta variant.

Antibody levels against Delta in people aged 18 to 55 who received a third dose of the jab increased more than fivefold from the second shot, reported the Xinhua news agency, referring to data shared by the company.

Among people aged 65 to 85, the data suggested that their antibody levels against Delta following a third dose are 11 times greater from the second shot.

Pfizer anticipates applying for emergency use authorisation for a third dose as soon as next month, Mikael Dolsten, who leads worldwide research and development for the firm, was quoted by CNN as saying in a teleconference. – Bernama, July 29, 2021
