JAKARTA – At least 12 people were injured when part of a mosque’s dome collapsed in South Sulawesi, Indonesia.

The mosque in Ujung Tanah, Makassar constructed in 1993, was packed last night when part of the dome fell to the ground.

Hundreds of people, including children, had gathered to attend Tarawih prayer (prayer done on Ramadan nights).

Makassar mayor Danny Pomanto said the injured were taken to a naval hospital, Pattingalloang community health centre and Akademis Jaury Hospital.

He also directed all relevant authorities to provide support for the injured and ordered the temporary closure of the mosque.

An investigation is currently underway with the city’s public works department to determine its causes, Makassar Port police chief Yudi Frianto was quoted by online media as saying. – Bernama, March 27, 2023
