KUALA LUMPUR – A 6.4-magnitude earthquake was detected off the coast of North Sumatra, Indonesia near the city of Padang Sidempuan at 10.59pm Malaysia time this evening.

The alert was issued by Indonesia’s geophysics agency BMKG, which said there was no potential of a tsunami arising from the tremor.

The earthquake was located 82-km southwest of the city, with a depth of 102km, the agency said.

Similarly, The Malaysian Meteorological Department, MetMalaysia, also issued an alert on the quake.

The agency also noted that tremors could be felt in Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, and Johor.

However, it said that there was no potential of any tsunami. – The Vibes, April 3, 2023
