SABAH Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) will now be known simply as Sabah Electricity.

The state utility firm also unveiled a new logo today as part of a rebranding initiative.

The new logo features the shape of Mount Kinabalu, replacing the old electrical plug symbol, with the motto “Energising Our Future,” instead of the previous “Your Light, Our Pride.”

Sabah Electricity Chairman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau said the initiative reflects the global shift in the power generation industry.

“This is a historical moment for us. It marks a change in mindset, embracing the new, especially in energy transition,” he told reporters during the logo launch.

Tangau added that the rebranding is accompanied by an upgrade of the company’s customer service unit.

Sabah Electricity, established in 1998, is 80% owned by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and 20% by the Sabah State Government. It was originally known as the Sabah Electricity Board, formed in 1963.

Sabah has long struggled with power generation issues, including ageing infrastructure, limited capacity, and reliance on inefficient diesel generators. Its difficult terrain complicates grid expansion, and dependence on fossil fuels has made energy supply unstable.

While efforts are underway to shift to renewable energy, progress has been slow. – October 25, 2024
