BUSINESS owners should use artificial intelligence (AI) to support their work but must never outsource their thinking or final judgement to it, said Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) chief executive officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil.

In a statement today, he said that while AI is capable of analysing information, condensing complex material, and helping companies evaluate options, the responsibility for making difficult business decisions must remain with people.

“Never outsource your thinking to AI. Ultimately, you make the decisions because that is what makes us human,” he said.

He stressed that business judgement extends beyond data analysis and includes factors that technology cannot be held accountable for, such as risk exposure, regulatory obligations, the impact on employees and customers, corporate reputation, and long-term strategy.

“AI can accelerate analysis and present possible options, but responsibility for the outcome must remain with the people running the business,” Bernama cited him saying.

Anuar also noted that AI is becoming as essential to businesses as email, making it increasingly difficult for companies to remain competitive without understanding and adopting the technology.

However, he cautioned that business owners and senior leaders must take responsibility for AI adoption itself, rather than delegating the entire process to employees, technology teams, or external consultants. - June 11, 2026
