K8 Cargo: Company still in limbo, claims CEO
Jeyenderan said the absence of an official determination had also exposed the company to operational and legal risks - August 27, 2026

MARITIME Network Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Jeyenderan Ramasamy has expressed regret that the company has yet to receive an official explanation or determination from the relevant government agencies regarding petroleum cargo declared under K8.

He said the company had sought clarification from various agencies, departments and ministries from April 27 to Aug 20, but had yet to receive an official decision on the status of the cargo.

“In our assessment, this matter is very serious and requires an immediate response from the Government, which bears the losses arising from this activity.

“From April 27 to Aug 20, 2026, we have made efforts through various channels to obtain clarification, determinations and further information from various relevant agencies, departments and ministries, but we have yet to receive any official decision.

“Among the matters that remain unresolved are whether petroleum cargo declared under K8 can be stored in shared shore tanks, whether the cargo can be mixed or commingled, and whether the correct type of declaration was used,” he said.

He claimed that his company had instead been made to appear at fault over the matter despite having taken steps to gather relevant information and documents and submit them to the authorities concerned, at its own business risk and in the national interest.

“We have also suffered substantial losses as a Malaysian shipping agency for as long as no official determination is issued,” he said.

Jeyenderan said the absence of an official determination had also exposed the company to operational and legal risks, in addition to losses in terms of business opportunities.

“We are conducting a business and cannot bear the risk of having our licence revoked, or financial and legal risks as stated under Section 35J(4) of the Customs Act 1967, as well as loss of opportunity due to the negligence and failure of the parties involved,” he said.

Jeyenderan added that the company was prepared to assist the investigation in any capacity to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

He said that as a Malaysian shipping agency, the company had fulfilled its responsibility by reporting the matter to the authorities and was entitled to receive an accurate and comprehensive explanation.

Jeyenderan also said he was prepared to disclose a report relating to the unloading and storage of the cargo, including records of the cargo volume, tanks used and the existing inventory before unloading, to the authorities to assist the investigation.

“I will disclose the report relating to this cargo so that all parties can examine the facts and records and the matter can be investigated comprehensively,” he said.

Earlier, media reports said that Jeyenderan had lodged a complaint regarding the matter with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

However, he claimed that to date, there had been no official response from the MACC regarding the complaint. – August 27, 2026
