THERE is no straightforward answer to whether MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5 is the better trading platform.

For many traders, the choice comes down to what they trade, how they trade and how comfortable they are with their existing setup.

That is the assessment from online trading platform JustMarkets in its 2026 guide comparing the two widely used platforms.

MT4 remains popular among traders who primarily focus on foreign exchange and prefer a relatively simple trading environment.

MT5 offers a broader range of instruments and additional analytical features, which may appeal to traders who follow several markets or rely more heavily on technical analysis.

The distinction can matter when traders decide whether the additional functions of MT5 are useful to their particular strategy, or whether the simpler MT4 setup is sufficient.

“Traders often ask us which platform is ‘better’, but in practice the platform that works best is the one that aligns with your specific trading strategy and daily habits,” a JustMarkets spokesperson said.

For a trader who has spent years working with MT4 and has an established strategy, there may be little reason to change simply because another platform has more features.

Those trading a wider range of CFD instruments, meanwhile, may find the additional tools and timeframes available on MT5 more useful.

Some traders are also choosing not to make the decision an either-or proposition.

JustMarkets said some clients use MT5 for analysis while turning to its browser-based Web Terminal when they want to access their accounts without installing desktop software.

The shift towards mobile and browser-based trading has also changed the way many traders monitor positions.

A computer is no longer necessarily the only point of access, particularly for those who need to check markets or positions while away from their usual setup.

But having more tools does not automatically make one platform the better choice.

For traders weighing MT4 against MT5 in 2026, the more practical consideration may be whether the platform fits their strategy and routine — rather than how long the list of features looks. – September 1, 2026
