KUALA LUMPUR – Coox, a co-working space for all things culinary, is aimed at lowering operational cost for food operators.
Founder Vinesh Singha said renting an outlet to operate restaurants in prime locations such as Bangsar can cost anything between RM10,000 to RM20,000 a month – but at Coox, operators need only pay between RM2,950 to RM5,250.
“Coox will provide services including take-away, dining, and delivery, and we are considering operating a drive-through as well,” he said, adding that operators need not worry about high commissions charged by food e-hailing and e-wallet operators.
Vinesh said, however, that food and beverage (F&B) service platform would not be doing delivery services; instead, it will have F&B operators to act as one “unit” in order to negotiate for lower commissions that will be charged by delivery service providers.
Meanwhile, co-founder Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Coox was conceptualised after restaurant and stall owners were forced to either close down for good or to scale down their operations.
He added that Coox will implement a profit-sharing system, so that “we win together – but if we lose, we lose together”.
Syed Saddiq, who is also Muar MP, said those interested in operating at Coox only need minimal staff to do the cooking, while the platform handles delivery orders and licence applications.
“Instead of closing down your restaurant business, you can operate here instead – all you need is two people in your kitchen, and Coox will handle things on the front-end,” he said.
Both were speaking at the launch event at Glo Damansara, TTDI, where the flagship outlet will be operating from.
Coox has 27 operators ready to work at Glo, and operations are expected to start April 1. – The Vibes, March 4, 2021
