KUALA LUMPUR – The ringgit clawed back to the 4.12 level against the United States dollar at the opening today, a level last seen on March 24, as the greenback yesterday fell to three-week lows.
At 9.01am, the local note rose 60 basis points to 4.1280/1330 against the dollar from 4.1340/1360 at yesterday’s close.
The ringgit was also supported by stabilising crude oil prices, with the benchmark Brent crude hovering around US$63.90 (RM263.96) per barrel today.
Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia recovered slightly from its two-day losing streak after bargain-hunting emerged in the local market.
At 9.10am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI gained 0.57 of a point to 1,598.28 from yesterday’s close of 1,597.71.
The index opened 2.48 points to 1,600.19.
Gainers led losers 270 to 207, while 1,271 counters were unchanged, 431 untraded and 10 suspended.
Total volume stood at 805.99 million shares worth RM290.21 million. – Bernama, April 14, 2021
