Rise in crude sends ringgit higher against US dollar

KUALA LUMPUR – The ringgit opened stronger against the United States dollar today, thanks to a rise in Brent crude oil prices, said dealers.

At 9am, the local currency rose to 4.1000/1050 against the greenback from yesterday’s close of 4.1030/1055.

At the time of writing, crude oil was trading at US$67.68 (RM277.86) per barrel, up 0.18%.

The ringgit has been fluctuating against the dollar due to the high daily tally of local Covid-19 cases.

Analysts have voiced concern about the Health Ministry’s ability to cope with the new wave of infections. – Bernama, May 4, 2021
