KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia resumed trading mixed today, with higher key index lifted by positive Wall Street performance last Friday. 

At 9.07am, the benchmark index FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) gained 4.84 points to 1,587.36 from Wednesday’s close of 1,582.52.

The index opened 5.03 points weaker at 1,577.49.

On the broader market, losers outpaced gainers 380 to 172, while 304 counters were unchanged, 1,329 untraded and five others suspended. 

Meanwhile, the ringgit opened easier against the US dollar today as the local currency continues to struggle with concerns over the rising Covid-19 death toll, mobility restrictions and vaccination deployment, all of which have surfaced as short-term threats to the local economy.

At 9am, the local currency eased to 4.1340/1370 against the greenback from Wednesday’s close of  4.1230/1280. – Bernama, May 17, 2021
