KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia extended yesterday’s rally to open slightly higher despite mild profit-taking in certain consumer product and services counters limiting gains.

At 9.15am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI rose 0.64 of a point to 1,583.10 from 1,582.46 at the close yesterday.

The index opened 3.64 points better at 1,586.10.

Market breadth was positive, with gainers leading losers 231 to 209, while 353 counters were unchanged, 1,360 untraded and 11 suspended.

Turnover stood at 698.09 million units worth RM330.72 million.

The ringgit, meanwhile, opened marginally lower against the United States dollar, as investors remain apprehensive ahead of the US Federal Open Market Committee monetary policy meeting later today.

At 9.01am, the local note eased to 4.1120/1150 against the greenback from 4.1130/1150 at yesterday’s close.

However, the ringgit’s fall was capped by firmer crude oil prices, as international benchmark Brent crude was 0.48% higher at US$73.21 (RM301.15) per barrel at the time of writing. – Bernama, June 15, 2021
