KUALA LUMPUR – The Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) has urged the government to raise civil servants’ salaries when it tables Budget 2021 next month.

President Adnan Mat said this is in view of Covid-19’s impact on the economy, coupled with the rising cost of living.

“The prices of goods and other basic services, such as food, drink, health, transportation, education and communication, have shown a slight increase,” he told Bernama today.

“This means that salaries, too, must be increased, in line with the hike in (the prices of) basic necessities, especially for civil servants.”

He said Cuepacs hopes that Putrajaya will announce a bonus for civil servants, as this can help revive the economy.

“The last time civil servants received a bonus was in 2012. The bonus was a 1½-month salary, or a minimum of RM1,500.

“On the other hand, a special financial aid was disbursed in the years prior – RM500 ahead of a festive celebration and the same amount before schools reopened.” – Bernama, October 17, 2020
