KOTA KINABALU – South Korea’s SK Nexilis has finalised a lease agreement with Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) to build a copper foil manufacturing facility with an annual production capacity of 50,000 tonnes.
The lease agreement was signed between Sabah Industrial Development Minister Datuk Joachim Gunsalam, who is also KKIP chairman, while SK Nexillis was represented by Shin Dong Hwan, CEO of SK Nexilis Malaysia, in a ceremony held at the industrial park this afternoon.
Also present at the signing were KKIP chief executive officer Datuk Melvin Disimond and board members.
SK Nexilis is investing RM4.2 billion in Sabah and is expected to create some 400 jobs for locals.
The facility’s construction will tentatively begin in the first half of this year and commercial operations will kickstart by 2023.
Once in operation, the new facility will increase SK Nexilis’ copper foil production capacity by three times its current global capacity to about 100,000 tonnes.
