KUALA LUMPUR – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah yesterday visited the Battersea Power Station, Malaysia’s iconic project in London.
Their Majesties were welcomed upon their arrival at 11am local time by the management team of the Battersea Project Holding Company and representatives of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Sime Darby Property and SP Setia Bhd.
Also present was Malaysian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Zakri Jaafar.
The 16.99ha real estate project is a joint venture between Sime Darby Property, SP Setia, EPF and PNB since 2012.
During the two-hour visit, the royal couple were briefed on the latest developments of the project, which has a gross development value of £9 billion (RM51.55 billion).
“Their Majesties also spent time inspecting the housing phase that has been completed, and unveiled a memorial plaque to commemorate their visit to the project,” said Istana Negara in a statement on Facebook.
The Battersea visit is one of the programmes lined up in conjunction with king and queen’s special 10-day trip to the UK starting September 17.
Their Majesties also visited the Malaysian high commission in Belgrave Square and the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre in Brickendonbury, Hertford, and met members of the Malaysian community in London.
“The Agong is scheduled to attend a reunion dinner at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where His Majesty studied from 1978 to 1979,” said the palace.
He will also hold a meeting with UK Chief of the Defence Staff Gen Nicholas Carter to discuss bilateral military cooperation between Malaysia and Britain.
Their Majesties will stay on in London after the completion of their itinerary, and are scheduled to return home on October 23.
The special visit is His Majesty’s second to the UK since becoming the Agong. The first seven-day trip began on December 9, 2019. – Bernama, September 25, 2021
