KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor government’s new life insurance scheme, offered for free and with total protection worth some RM60 billion is targeted to benefit about six million people in the state.

In a statement today, Menteri Besar Selangor Inc (MBI Selangor) said registration for the Insan scheme (Selangor Life Insurance Scheme) will begin tomorrow.

The scheme features insurance premiums amounting to RM10,000 each for deaths, accidents, and injuries, according to type.

Fully borne by the state government, it is applicable for all people of Selangor between the ages of 30 days and 80 years.

The details were earlier today conveyed to members of the Selangor assembly, state assembly coordinators, and MPs of constituencies in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur during a special briefing on the scheme this morning.

“As the implementing agency for the Insan programme, MBI Selangor will implement the Insan programme completely digitally through Wavpay Fintech Holding Sdn Bhd (Wavpay), one of the companies in the MBI Group that will act as the service operator for this programme,” said MBI Selangor chief executive officer Norita Mohd Sidek in the statement.

Registration will continue to take place until September 30, 2023 on the Wavpay e-wallet mobile app, which can be downloaded for free on Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS platforms.

“Information can also be obtained at state assembly representatives’ centres and the Selangor assembly coordinators,” she said.

The Insan programme was announced by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as one of the state government’s initiatives for its people during the state-level National Day celebration on August 31 this year.

It was reported then that to qualify for Insan, a person has to either be Selangor-born or a voter in the state. – The Vibes, September 30, 2022
