KUALA LUMPUR – Companies that fail to comply with health and safety rules during the conditional movement control order will see their operating permits revoked immediately and face legal action, said Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The international trade and industry minister said the ministry issued a letter on SOP compliance to 171 associations and chambers of business on Thursday.
“The letter is to prove that the International Trade and Industry Ministry takes a serious view of SOP compliance, following the recent increase in Covid-19 cases,” he said after an event here today.
If companies are found to have flouted the SOP and do not cooperate with the Health Ministry, he said, the government will shut down the premises concerned under Section 18(1)(d) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
“The question now is SOP compliance, as well as employers’ responsibility to bear the cost of Covid-19 screening (for workers) in a bid to break the chain of infection.
“Don’t place the burden solely on the government. Industries rake in huge profits, so they, too, must contribute to efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 among their workforce, especially foreign workers.” – Bernama, November 29, 2020
