KUALA LUMPUR – In an effort to complete its labour policy transformation, Supermax Corporation Bhd is urging former migrant employees to apply for reimbursement of any fees paid to obtain employment at the company.
In a statement today, the glove company said it is continuing to conduct an outreach campaign to follow up on earlier efforts implemented in Nepal and Bangladesh, asking former workers who paid recruitment fees to gain employment to be reimbursed.
Founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Stanley Thai said finding every worker who paid a recruitment fee is the company’s goal as Supermax completes a transformation of its labour policies.
Supermax established a sinking fund in March 2022 to repay recruitment fees of former workers who had returned to their native countries.
The fund is managed by an advisory and governance committee headed by Elevate, a globally renowned environmental, social and governance, sustainability and supply chain services provider.
The committee is guided by independent migrant workers’ rights specialist Adrian Pereira, executive director of the North-South Initiative, a Malaysian-based non-governmental organisation that advocates migrant rights, the statement said. – Bernama, April 13, 2023
