RENOWNED lyricist Rudy Imran Shamsuddin has passed away at his family home in Semenyih, Selangor.

He had been receiving treatment for bowel cancer for the past few years, reported Astro Awani.

Rudy had left the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) last Monday after receiving advanced cancer treatment.

He was a prolific lyricist having begun his songwriting career about a decade ago.

Among the works that bore his touch was the song 'Lelaki Teragung' by Dayang Nurfaizah.

It was nominated for Best Song at the 31st Anugerah Juara Lagu in 2017.

Before carving out a name as a lyricist, Rudy was a well-known entertainment journalist and had served with various media organisations.

He started out as a journalist for the entertainment magazine Variapop in early 1994 before migrating to Watan newspaper, based in Taman Setiawangsa here.

Rudy later served in the Karangkraf group before moving to the media company Utusan Melayu.

His career as a journalist ended at the Harian Metro newspaper.

While serving at Harian Metro, Rudy went on to pursue his master's degree at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). – The Vibes, March 31, 2022
