KUALA LUMPUR – Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today that the government will be allocating RM102 million for the Digital Content Fund to promote the works of local artists and to spur the creation of more original productions. 

“The government continues to support the efforts of creative arts activists in raise the field of art and culture,” Anwar said when tabling the budget in Dewan Rakyat today.  

To support artists in creating high-quality content, the government also proposed that contributions to the Film Community Fund and the National Film Development under Finas will be given a tax deduction.  

In addition, import duty and sales tax on studio equipments and film productions will also be exempted. 

Anwar also said the government would step up efforts to promote and preserve art, culture and heritage at the community level.

“Cultural activities play a big role in giving birth to a civil society that respects each other and that is united. This is also important to enrich the diversity of our art and cultural heritage which we have inherited through the generations,” Anwar explained.  

To that end, the government will provide a fund of RM25 million for related activities. Anwar emphasised that his administration will focus on unity programmes to improve race relations in the country through arts, culture and sports. – The Vibes, February 24, 2023
