MS Puiyi is proud to announce that she has recently released a new song, the single Shackle. It is the first song she has ever produced and carries significant meaning to her. It’s been a year since she released any new songs, as she dedicated all her time on this track, the result of a fruitful collaboration with local singer-songwriter NYK.
Born in Penang and currently based in Subang, Nick Yungkit, also known as NYK, is no stranger to the local music scene and has even been leaving his mark internationally, after first appearing in the local music scene back in 2017 with his single, FWB.
Shackle is inspired by Ms Puiyi's goal of empowering all women to be brave and stay true to themselves. She also believes that anyone can take control of their own destiny and achieve their dream, just like how she ignored the naysayers to become a DJ and music producer, as well as as an actress in the local horror movie Pulau.
Ms Puiyi has struggled with societal norms since a young age, feeling an intense pressure to abide by societal norms. In past relationships, men often expected her to be a housewife and conform to traditional gender roles. However, after leaving college to pursue her dream of becoming a model, despite being condemned as a college dropout, she never gave up. Now, she is paving her way to the music industry because being on stage has always been her true passion.
“I’ve always wanted to contribute to the music industry by creating music that inspires and uplifts people,” said Ms Puiyi. “Working with NYK on Shackles was an amazing experience, and I’m so proud of what we were able to create together.”
Shackle encourages listeners to embrace their individuality and pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles in their way.
Ms Puiyi has several other projects in the coming months. She has a few upcoming collaborations planned for this year.
