AFTER three months of shooting in two countries, the movie that was inspired by true events – Malbatt: Misi Bakara – will be in cinemas nationwide this coming August 24, 2023.
Director and producer, Adrian Teh gave assurances that the patriotic war movie Malbatt: Misi Bakara is ready for screening in conjunction with Independence Day celebrations in late August. The balance of the next few months will be used for touch ups and editing before finalising the movie.
According to Adrian, who previously directed action packed movies such as Paskal The Movie and Wira, he was really impressed after watching the movie Black Hawk Down (released in late 2001) back when he was 17-years-old. Twenty-one years later, it never crossed his mind that he would be given a chance to direct a movie on that event from a Malaysian perspective.
“I feel like I have to let the Malaysians know the true history of this event. Therefore I have utilised all my resources, filming techniques, skills and effort to complete this film. This is also the toughest and most stressful movie that I have made in my entire career, but I hope everyone will like the final product,” said Adrian, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of Act 2 Pictures.
The guest of honour of the announcement press conference at GSC Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur, army chief General Datuk Seri Mohammad Ab Rahman also gave a speech.
"It is my hope that this film will be able to display the true facts of this historic event because it was made based on information from those who were directly involved in the battle. It is important that the true facts are highlighted in order to appreciate the sacrifices of those who have given their lives in the name of our country.”
Malbatt: Misi Bakara is presented by the Malaysian Army together with six giant production companies namely: Berjaya Pictures, Act 2 Pictures, Fast Bikes, Aurum Investments Limited, Golden Screen Cinemas and Astro Shaw.
The film tells the true story of an operation to rescue United States soldiers who were trapped when their Black Hawk helicopter was shot down in Somalia in 1992. This story was featured in the Hollywood movie Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott.
Malbatt: Misi Bakara will give a narrative about the night of the incident and recognise the real Malaysian heroes who participated in the mission.
Berjaya Pictures, a subsidiary under Berjaya Land Company, is the biggest investor in this movie. Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun, founder and advisor of Berjaya Corporation stated that he hopes this film can give inspiration to the audience to appreciate the struggle of the heroes of our country.

Also present at the ceremony were Lieutenant General Datuk Muhammad Hafizuddeain bin Jantan, deputy commander of the Army; Datuk Kamil Othman, Chairman of Finas; TS Raja Adhzim, senior director of Engineering, Finas; Syed Ali Shahul Hameed, Chief Executive Officer of Berjaya Land Group; Budi Citawan Wan Hanafi, managing director of Berjaya Pictures; and Datuk Razak Al-Malique Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of Fast Bikes.
