THE Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO)’s 25th anniversary continues with family-themed concerts.

Combining the magic of the silver screen with the enchanting music of a ‘live’ orchestra, Family Film Favourites will be staged next week.

What makes these concerts more special is that they will feature a young Malaysian conductor at the podium, Jebat Arjuna Kee Jia Liang.

Together with the MPO, he will weave his magic and transport the audience into a world of immersive film music.

They will be performing iconic and popular scores designed to delight audiences of all ages.

A violist with the MPO, Jebat has conducted the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC, the Charleston and Makris Symphony Orchestras, Illinois Lyric Theater, Milikin Opera Theatre and the University of Illinois Philharmonia Orchestra.

He holds a Master’s in Orchestral Conducting from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign under the tutelage of Donald Schleicher. As a violist, he has participated in many summer festivals in the USA.

Jebat is also an active chamber musician and advocate for new music.

The concerts will also feature popular presenter Alasdair Malloy who will be interacting with the audience.

Malloy is a familiar face with the Malaysian audience over the years. He is a regular guest with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony, Opera North, Dublin’s RTE Orchestra and London Mozart Players.

A glass harmonic specialist, he has also showcased in the USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Amsterdam and Monte Carlo.

Among the works lined up are Remember Me (from ‘Coco’), Moana Musical Highlights (from ‘Moana’), Hero of Hogwarts (from ‘Harry Potter’), Everything is Awesome Because We’re Happy (from ‘The Lego Movie’ and ‘Despicable Me’), A Frozen Fantasy (from ‘Frozen’) and music from ‘Star Wars’.
