MOE announces two additional school holidays for Deepavali

SCHOOLCHILDREN nationwide will enjoy a long holiday in conjunction with this year's Deepavali celebration following the announcement of additional holidays by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE).

Deepavali or the Festival of Lights will be celebrated on Monday, October 20.

According to the 2025/2026 Academic Calendar, the holiday is given to all schools nationwide except Sarawak, to allow students and teachers to celebrate the festival with their families and  friends.

The following is the schedule of additional holidays announced by the Ministry of Education as shared in the Academic Calendar for the 2025/2026 Session:

1) Group A - Schools in Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu will have a holiday on October 19 (Sunday) and October 21 (Tuesday).

2) Group B - Schools in Melaka, Johor, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Penang, Sabah, Selangor and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya will have a holiday on October 21 (Tuesday) and October 22 (Wednesday).

3) Sarawak will be given a day off on October 20 (Monday).

The announcement made by the Ministry of Education thus gives school staff the opportunity to enjoy five consecutive days of holidays starting Saturday to Wednesday. - October 7, 2025
