KUALA LUMPUR – School staff, including teachers, and support personnel, janitors, and canteen operators must be fully vaccinated in time for the resumption of face-to-face classes, said Education Minister Datuk Mohd Radzi Md Jidin.

“We have issued a directive, especially to security and canteen operators, to ensure all their workers who are serving in schools are vaccinated.”

Radzi said teachers who are not vaccinated – whether by choice or based on medical advice – will not be allowed to be present in schools.

He added that discussions are ongoing with the Public Service Department on whether action will be taken against teachers who refuse to be vaccinated.

“We want to ensure the entire ecosystem for our children is generally (among those who are) vaccinated.”

Radzi said the Transport Ministry has provided a list of bus operators and that the Education Ministry will ensure the drivers are also fully vaccinated.

“Parents must take into account that the drivers may not be included in the list we have received. So, we advise them to make the right and appropriate choices (on this matter).”

Radzi said this during a press conference today on school operations.

In-person classes are expected to start in stages October 3 onwards. – The Vibes, September 12, 2021
