PETALING JAYA – It will be back to the home-based teaching and learning method (PdPR) if schools are forced to close due to the haze, said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
“If the Air Pollution Index (API) hits 200 in any area, all schools in the area will be closed immediately.
“As of now, all outdoor activities have been stopped for areas recording an API reading of 100 and above,” she said at the International Conference on Educational Leadership and Management at Institute Aminuddin Baki, in Genting Highlands.
Yesterday, the Environment Department said schools, kindergartens and nurseries should begin making the relevant preparations if the trend in daily API readings are heading towards the 200 mark.
An API reading of 0-50 is considered good. 51-100 is moderate, 101-200 is unhealthy, 201-300 is very unhealthy, and above 300 is hazardous.
All out-of-classroom activities must be halted if the API reading breaches 100.
“We are well-prepared and have the relevant experience for PdPR, so, it should not be an issue.
“Schools on their part must observe all safety rules and guidelines with regards to the haze,” added Fadhlina. – The Vibes, October 3, 2023
