The Education Ministry will not compromise when it comes to sexual offences in schools, Bernama reports.

“If we find (sexual misconduct) occurring among Education Ministry members, we have this disciplinary statement, which is, ‘You touch, you go!’” said Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

She said her office was updating the sexual misconduct management guidelines for educational institutions.

Fadhlina said this in response to an alleged case of sexual misconduct in which a female student was raped and sexually assaulted by three male students in Besut, Terengganu.

The incident allegedly happened in February.

“At the same time, I remind everyone that family members must make reports… so that we can control such behaviour.”

She added that the govt takes a serious view of social problems involving students, including smoking and vaping.

Fadhlina reminded parents and the community to play their part, especially if the cases happen outside the school.

“The school is indeed under our control... because we can take action and discipline, but outside of that, it requires the commitment of parents and the community,” she said.

“We have to remind them from time to time of the ban on the sale of cigarettes and vaping for individuals under 18.” – August 11, 2024.
