KUALA LUMPUR – Hours before the movement control order (MCO) took effect at midnight, police set up roadblocks to ensure compliance with travel curbs.

The MCO, which is in place for two weeks in Penang, Selangor, Johor, Melaka, Sabah and the Federal Territories, comes amid a drastic increase in Covid-19 infections in Malaysia, with daily cases having breached the 3,000 mark twice.

Yesterday, the country logged 3,309 cases, its highest-ever 24-hour tally.
