KUALA LUMPUR – Dataran Merdeka previously witnessed a historic event when Malaysians, for the first time, witnessed the lowering of the Union Jack and the raising of the flag of the Federation of Malaya at midnight on August 31, 1957.

Dataran Merdeka is now the place for parades for Independence Day , later renamed to National Day, but the Covid-19 epidemic that hit the world in 2020 has set aside that location of public focus.

However, the celebration of National Day 2022 will return to Dataran Merdeka this year after two years of silence and simple celebration.

Tomorrow, according to Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa, it will be celebrated on a larger scale with the participation of up to 25,000 people, in addition to the display of defence assets, fly-bys of aircraft carrying the Jalur Gemilang, and a 14-cannon salute.

More interestingly, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah will later ride by in a royal carriage.
