KUALA LUMPUR – 2022 was a year in which everyone in the sports fraternity could breathe a sigh of relief as the reopening of borders meant many activities could be hosted in Malaysia.
Local and international events were back on the calendar, which meant enthusiasts were eager to catch their favourite athletes in action.
One of the biggest milestones was Harimau Malaya’s qualification for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, ending a 42-year wait since the last time the team made it to the competition on merit.
On the racetrack, the return of the Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix signalled a momentous occasion, as the world’s biggest motorcycle race finally returned to the Sepang International Circuit after being postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Another one of Malaysia’s favourite sports, badminton, also returned and gave fans something to cheer about when the Malaysian Open and Malaysian Masters were held back-to-back at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.
