KUALA LUMPUR – Muslims last night flocked to mosques and surau across the country to perform their tarawih prayers as they usher in the holy month of Ramadan.
This came after Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad declared that Muslims in Malaysia will begin fasting today as set by the order of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah after the consent of the rulers.
More than 1,000 congregants thronged Masjid Negara here to perform the tarawih prayers led by Ahmad Mujahid Salleh Sani while more packed Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin in Putrajaya last night.
Even the unhoused took the opportunity to perform their prayers despite taking place in the back alleys here.
Meanwhile, the Ramadan moon sighting took place in 29 locations nationwide, including Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, Pontian Kecil in Johor and Melaka’s Falak Al-Khawarizmi Complex in Kg Balik Batu.
