SINGAPOREAN artiste Kumarason Chinnadurai, better known as Kumar will break barriers here when he becomes the first regional comedian to humour audiences in Seberang Perai.

Kumar's evening show at the Light Hotel in Seberang Jaya on Oct 5, is the comedian's first major skit to make its debut on the state's mainland and the Singaporean has pledged to offer new punchlines and spoofs to mark the occasion.

All of his previous performances have been on the island.

It is also a delight to the Penang tourism authorities whose state executive councillor Wong Hon Wai, has been advocating for tourism to grow on the mainland rather than just on the island.

Wong, who is in charge of tourism and the creative economy, also cites the move to relocate the regional crowd spinner - the year-ender - Penang Marathon to the Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge (Second Penang Bridge) in Batu Kawan for the first time.

The range of tourist attractions on the mainland are gastronomic spots in Butterworth to Bukit Mertajam and Malay food enclaves in Kepala Batas as well as Tasek Gelugor.

Kumar through a statement, released by the organiser LOL Asia, cited that he plans to bring a whole new vibe to the younger generation.

"It is curated for a wholesome family experience," said Kumar, who grew to fame as a wise-cracking drag queen performer.

Kumar plans to generate a roar of laughter with his brand-new international gig entitled, `Beats, Rhymes & Punchlines to Malaysia across four Malaysian cities – Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Johor Bahru.
