29-year-old Ahmad Hamada Ayueman is willing to sacrifice everything he owns to raise money for the treatment of his wife, Siti Nuraifat Bueraheng, 25, or more affectionately called Aifat, - suffering from stage four sarcoma cancer of the knee tissue since last year.
"I don't like to be in debt. (So) I sold everything I had, including gold. Now, I'm trying to sell my BMW E90 car to cover my beloved wife's treatment," he told Kosmo!.
Ahmad Hamada said his wife's suffering began with a small swelling on her right knee after being involved in a motorcycle accident in 2021, a year before they got married.
"Look, it looks normal (after an accident), even the X-ray report shows no broken or cracked parts. Aifat is a strong person, she just massages. But over time, the swelling got bigger and more painful.
“After getting married, I felt bad seeing her condition so I took my wife to a private hospital but the doctor was not sure about the cause of the swelling,” he said.
According to him, further tests at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) confirmed that his wife had cancer and until now the treatment cost has reached tens of thousands of ringgit including knee surgery, MRI tests and disposable diapers.
“Aifat’s health status is deteriorating and she has difficulty moving. I also had to quit my job at a restaurant because I was taking care of my wife who was in bed,” he said.
He said that since the beginning of her treatment at HKL before being transferred to the Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) last year, he had applied for various assistance for cancer patients including from the National Cancer Council.
“Since the beginning of her treatment until Aifat’s condition became more serious today, there has still been no sustenance for us. I understand that maybe (the factor) my wife is a foreigner (Thailand), but we have a valid marriage certificate in this country.
"Aifat also has a visa permit to follow her husband for four years. I appeal to the public to share if there is another channel for us to seek help. I will not give up as long as Aifat is still breathing," said the father of two children.
