WE are going to explain to you how to make some money in these trying times. Well, not immediately but in the next year or two. To make money you need to have money, so if your piggy bank is empty you cannot take on this proposal. Let us explain. For years some very smart and very rich Malaysians have been making serious money in the brand new supercar segment.

There are a few car manufacturers, like McLaren who produce limited edition cars every now and then. When these cars are launched by the local brand guardian you need to immediately book a unit and buy it tax free. Yes, buy it and store it in Langkawi (tax-free island). You will have to pay a small yearly storage and maintenance fee.

After a year or so, this limited edition supercar will start rising in value, overseas more than in Malaysia, and you can get the dealer to find a rich cash buyer who will pay a handsome premium. Just ship the supercar to them, pay the handling fee to the dealer and pocket your profit until the next limited edition supercar comes along.

This McLaren 756LT which was launched last week is a prime example. With class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 622PS-per-tonne at lightest dry weight it delivers 755bhp and 800Nm from the twin-turbocharged McLaren produced V8 engine that enables it to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 2.8 seconds and 0–200km/h dash in just 7.2 seconds.

Its optimised for throttle response with 15 per cent quicker in-gear acceleration than a McLaren 720S and the fastest lap times of any McLaren Super Series model. It is 80kg less than 720S coupé at 1,339kg (DIN weight) and just 1,229kg at lightest dry weight which is more than 50kg below its closest competitor in comparable specification.

It uses lightweight materials throughout with advanced carbon fibre technologies for body components. Specific weight-saving measures include titanium exhaust system, Formula 1-grade transmission materials, thinner glass and motorsport-style polycarbonate glazing.

Carbon-ceramic discs, calipers from the McLaren Senna and Formula 1-inspired, integrated caliper cooling ducts combine for superb brake pedal feel and incredible stopping power.

In the rear you have a quad-exit full-titanium exhaust system that delivers a searing ‘LT soundtrack’, as well as a 40 per cent weight-saving over a comparable steel system.

This limited edition supercar comes with a motorsport-inspired drivers cabin that features carbon fibre racing seats, carbon fibre centre tunnel, exposed carbon fibre floor and lightweight Alcantara throughout.

Just 765 individually numbered cars will be made available globally for purchase. This is why it will rise in value. The allocation for Malaysia is just ten units and it should be all taken up in the coming weeks.
