DATUK Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that there is no need for any minister, deputy minister or chairman of a statutory body to resign following allegations of attacking 'comrades' in the Unity Government.
The Deputy Prime Minister said this is because the power to determine their position lies entirely in the hands of the Prime Minister.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said that the appointment of the position holder is the absolute right of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and any action can only be decided by the Prime Minister based on the information obtained.
"The power of appointment is the absolute right of the Prime Minister. So, if the Prime Minister suspects or gets verified information, it is up to him to decide and there is no need for anyone to resign," he said.
Ahmad Zahid said this when asked to comment on the Prime Minister's recommendation that any minister, deputy minister or chairman of a statutory body who attacked fellow members in the Unity Government during the State Election (PRN) campaign should resign their respective positions.
Commenting further, Ahmad Zahid said that the matter (the power to appoint and dismiss) is the Prime Minister's prerogative.
Earlier, Anwar was reported to have reminded all members of the government administration and office holders in government agencies not to use their positions to attack parties or leaders who are partners in the Unity Government, especially in the Negeri Sembilan state election campaign.
According to the Prime Minister, any party that chooses to do so should be prepared to resign from office because such action contradicts the spirit of cooperation agreed upon in the government. – July 21, 2026
