Rising rental rates force man to live in tree for the last 6 months

DUE to rising living costs, a man, who was formerly a cushion maker, has been living in a tree for the last six months.

His story came to light when philanthropist Kuan Chee Heng, affectionately known as Uncle Kentang, visited him recently.

In a Facebook post, Uncle Kentang said the man had no money to pay for a room and made a tree his home.

"This man lives on tree as he has no money to pay for room rental. Formerly a cushion maker, he has been sleeping on this tree for over 6 months.

"I have spoken with him and will help him get a room," he said.

The man’s belongings were seen suspended in the branches of the tree where he had been sleeping. - January 13, 2026
