THE reunion dinner, held the night before the coming of the Lunar New Year is an event of departures and arrivals. Celebrated with the extended family, it often signals a gathering even more symbolic than the day of the New Year itself.
In a historical Chinese New Village tucked in the district of Seri Kembangan, Selangor, the Wan family gather, in smaller numbers due to restrictions – common now in this age of pandemic – to usher in the Year of the Ox.
In this traditional act of togetherness, the promise of good fortune, peace and prosperity, and the passing of the old one endure in smaller numbers but in greater spirit. – The Vibes, February 12, 2021
