IN AN attempt to woo the non-Malay electorate, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has issued a Chinese New Year (CNY) greeting in four languages – Bahasa Melayu, English, Tamil and Mandarin.

He said Islam, which is the basis of the party’s struggle, guaranteed justice, security, and prosperity for all, regardless of their race or religion.

“This was successfully proven under the PAS administration in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis,” he said.

He pointed out that places of worship had not been demolished while non-Muslims were able to run their own businesses as proof that religious freedom was guaranteed by PAS.

“The diversity of races and nationalities is celebrated as a sign of God’s greatness and is a natural part of human existence.

“I continue to learn more about the culture and customs of other races in Malaysia and would like to take this opportunity to wish all the Chinese in Malaysia a Happy New Year,” said the Marang MP.

Hadi’s move to issue his festive greeting in four languages is a marked departure from past practices where the party had mostly sent statements only in Bahasa Melayu.

The post was accompanied with a picture of him dressed in red traditional Chinese attire.

“It is my hope during this Chinese New Year celebration that the unity of races in Malaysia to be continuously strengthened and fortified.

“For those returning to their hometowns to celebrate this occasion with family, I pray for your safe journey,” he said. – The Vibes, February 8, 2024
