ABOUT 16 months ago in June 2019, the first and only DS Showroom in Malaysia was officially ready for business and this DS 7 Crossback was launched with some excitement as its launch selling price was RM199,368.

Targeted to rival the popular Mercedes GLA (RM269,888) and BMW X1 (RM230,410) which were smaller compact SUV’s, this well sized French made luxury sports utility vehicle was sized more to compete with the Volvo XC40 (RM255,888) and Renault Koleos (RM173,840).

As you can see, its selling price at launch was rather tempting and this is why the first batch of 50 plus units were quick to be sold.
This French SUV was designed and carefully put together to meet the needs of SUV buyers across the world. It comes with the class best cabin space, extensive range of features and its carefully-appointed cabin positions it as a reference in its class for comfort and refinement.
Design Language
We first need to explain the DS brand a little. DS is the luxury division of the Citroen car company and the ‘DS’ name stands for Different Spirit or Distinctive Series as well as being a play on the word ‘déesse’ goddess in French. Citroen decided to start an upmarket brand just like Toyota did with Lexus and Nissan did with Infiniti, and so the DS 7 was its first SUV.

First impressions are great with this DS 7. It is a handsome SUV with elegant flowing lines and a smooth finish from nose to tail. The multi-lighting LED system in each front headlamp defines its seductive looks. The daytime running light on the edge of the bumper clears the way forward as it moves along in traffic.

The DS badge is unknown to many Malaysians and this creates some curious looks curbside when you drive in urban areas. The smooth rear gets noticed more with its 3D rear lights.
Cabin Livery
Yes, this is where you will be most impressed. The quality and materials used puts the DS 7 above all its rivals and more. The use of Alcantara material and leather all over the cabin with fine stitching defines this SUV’s selling price.

The rotating B.R.M. clock on the top center provides that finishing touch that seeks your ownership. Seating comfort is high and rear space allows for 3 adults to take in a journey with good comfort. Luggage room is good and better than its German rivals.

On The Move
Yes, it is a 1.6L turbocharged engine under that sleek hood, but there is enough power to tackle city commuting on a daily basis and when you want to go inter-state, there is the 240Nm of torque to keep you happy at the edge of the highway speed limit. Some of its rivals have more powerful 2.0L engines but they lack the comfort and cabin quality of this DS.
Conclusion
This is a SUV that delivers a high value cabin look and feel that might have you guessing a higher price tag. Its humble powerplant is more than enough and there will be no DS owner looking for a drag-race with this luxury SUV.
This DS 7 Crossback SUV was initially priced at RM199,368 on-the-road without insurance and now the selling price has moved up to RM259,888. Why the RM60k price hike? We have no real explanation from the dealer.
It comes with a 5-Years Peace Of Mind warranty or up to 120,000km, whichever comes first, and 5-Years 24-hour Roadside Assistance.
Colour options available right now are Nera Black, Pearl White, Absolute Red and Platinum Grey.
We suggest you take it for a test drive and get ready to take plenty of selfies with the cabin as it will nudge you to sign the purchase slip.
