KUALA LUMPUR – Pertubuhan Pembangunan Kendiri Wanita dan Gadis (Women:girls) and Pusat Kreatif Kanak-kanak Tuanku Bainun (PKKTB) have once again collaborated to bring The Tuanku Bainun Changemakers Awards this year.
The Young Changemakers was initiated in 2015 to highlight and recognise Malaysian children, aged 6-17, for their innovation, courage and inspiring contributions to the world around them.
In August, 57 youth joined the Tuanku Bainun Young Changemakers: Home Series and it was a successful five-weekend online workshop. Now, it is time for the changemakers to submit their projects to be nominated for the Tuanku Bainun Young Changemakers Awards 2021.
Submissions are open from September 17 to October 28. There are various categories to choose from based on the projects submitted.
Raja Datuk Seri Azureen, chairman of PKK Tuanku Bainun, said: “We believe that all children and youth can be Changemakers, therefore it is important that Women:girls and Pusat Kreatif Kanak-kanak Tuanku Bainun continue to provide this platform to showcase and celebrate the great work that the younger generation is doing."
Categories for this year’s project submissions are:

More categories are being added this year, therefore there are more doors for various project submissions from the changemakers as well as nominees for the Advocate Category.
As the world embraced digital transformation, Izza Izelan, executive director at Women:girls, a non-governmental organisation that partners with PKKTB in running the programme, said, “When the pandemic hit last year, we realised the need to adapt quickly to the digital shift and therefore beginning from last year, have created a digital-first experience to all our offering under the ‘Young Changemakers’ umbrella.
"The Young Changemakers: Home Series was conducted completely online, as the Summit, as well as Awards ceremonies this year, will also take place online."
This year’s theme colours are yellow and purple. It is to symbolise creativity and encourage imagination amongst Malaysian children in the age category. Those are two strong pillars of the programme too.
The Young Changemakers Awards 2021 will be held on Friday, November 19 via Youtube in conjunction with International Children’s Day, with exciting performances and presentations by young people.
