TWO Malaysian scientists from Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, Professor Denny Ng, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences associate head, and Professor Sarat Dass, School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, are among a total of over 100,000 scientists whose published research papers have accelerated progress in their respective fields.

The Stanford University List, created by analysing a group of over 100,000 scientists classified under 22 scientific fields and 176 subfields, features the most cited scientists across a large range of disciplines.

Professor Denny Ng, who was recognised twice under the Stanford List is listed under the field of engineering and the subfields of chemical engineering and energy, while Professor Dr Sarat Dass is listed under the field of information and communications technology and the subfields of artificial intelligence and image processing and statistics and probability.

This recognition of Professor Denny Ng and Professor Sarat Dass among the world’s top 2% of scientists, representing the forefront of world leading high impact research as global leaders, has brought great pride to the HWUM community.

Over the years, Professor Denny Ng has published over 200 papers with an h-index of 39. His areas of specialisation include development of sustainable production and consumption  strategies, optimisation of sustainable value chain of palm oil industry, energy management, resource conservation via process integration techniques, synthesis and analysis of biomass  processing and integrated bio refineries.

“In order to develop a scientific based society, scientific research and development is the key for success," Professor Denny Ng said. "We shall continue to contribute to the society  development via sharing of our knowledge to all related stakeholders and contribute to policy development. We can then maximise our research impact.”

Professor Sarat has published over 140 papers with h-index 28. His areas of specialisation include Bayesian statistics, data science and statistical machine learning.

“I am truly honoured to be in the Stanford List in recognition of my research work in Statistics and Data Science, and of the impact that my work has had in public health surveillance, biometric authentication and other application domains,” Professor Sarat said. – The Vibes, November 3, 2021
